From the world’s first winter tire in 1934 to the world’s first zero CO2 emissions tire factory in 2024 – making a safe journey for generations

Nokian Tyres' purpose is to make the world safer by reinventing tires, and how they are made, over and over again - a safer place to drive, work and live now and for generations to come. Inspired by our northern heritage, we develop and manufacture premium tires for passenger cars, trucks and heavy machinery with sustainability at the heart of all our operations. Our Vianor chain provides tire and car services. We are some 3,800 people with net sales of EUR 1.3 billion in 2024, and together we lead the journey to smarter driving for people and for businesses.

In addition to the future Oradea factory in Romania, our current production facilities are in Nokia, Finland, where our headquarters and R&D hub is also situated, and in Dayton, US. We also have two test centers: one in Ivalo, Finnish Lapland and one in Santa Cruz de la Zarza, Spain.

The Nordic countries, North America and Central Europe are all important market areas for us. Our innovative and pioneering products, high-quality services and strong distribution network strengthen our position in these key markets.

Sustainability is at the core of our operations

Sustainability is a natural part of our business: it means sustainable product development, safe and eco-friendly products as well as high standards of quality in everything that we do. We want to be an international industry leader also in terms of environmental matters and contribute to tackling climate change by setting ambitious science-based climate targets. In May 2018, Nokian Tyres joined the Science Based Targets initiative with the aim of setting more precise targets that are assessed and validated by an external organization. The climate goals, Science Based Targets, were published in May 2020. The four targets are in line with the Paris Agreement, and the base year for the first three targets is 2018 and 2015 for the fourth target. All the targets should be achieved by 2030.

The high-quality Nokian Tyres winter, summer, all-season and all-weather tires for passenger cars, SUVs and vans ensure safe journeys for drivers around the world. Our product development is guided by the principle of sustainable safety: the tire must be safe throughout its life cycle. Our tires undergo several tests to examine the tire’s behavior in a range of conditions as well as its durability and eco-friendliness. We are actively looking for and testing sustainable raw materials, such as recycled materials and our target is that by the 2030, 50% of all the materials used in our tires will be renewable or recycled.

over 120 years of history

The roots of the world’s northernmost tire manufacturer go back more than 120 years all the way to 1898, when Suomen Gummitehdas Oy, or Finnish Rubber Factory, was established. Nokian Tyres plc was founded in 1988. Today, the expertise gathered over the decades can be seen in innovations that offer safe driving and peace of mind to millions of road users. Our history may be long but our story is only just beginning.
