Used passenger car tyres and light truck tyres may have a stud protrusion of up to 2.0 mm.

How much tread must tyres legally have?

The depth of the main grooves in the tread must be at least 1.6 mm on summer tyres and at least 3.0 mm on winter tyres. The main grooves are the wide grooves in the central area of the tread on about 3/4 of the tread surface.

When can winter tyres be used?

Studded winter tyres can be used from November 1 to March 31 or until Easter Monday. Studded tyres can be used at other times if the weather or driving conditions require them.

When are drivers required to use winter tyres?

Winter tyres must be used on cars and vans in December, January, and February. Exceptions include temporary transfers for sale, repair, or inspection.
