Efficiency to harvesting:
The Nokian Forest Rider product family is growing and goes tubeless
The radial forestry tyre, the Nokian Forest Rider, continues the revolution and begins yet another era in professional harvesting. In the future, the Nokian Forest Rider, used in CTL forestry machines and heavy tractors, goes forward convincingly also as a tubeless tyre.
The tubeless tyre brings more efficient work hours for forestry contractors, as possible tube damages do not interrupt work. Discarding one replaceable part is also a cost efficient and environmentally friendly choice. In 2009, the Nokian Forest Rider family for CTL forestry machines and heavy tractors is available without tubes. The Nokian Forest Rider is the first functional radial forestry tyre in the world. It was introduced to the market, after several years of careful development work, in 2006.
Firm traction and grip for heavy CTL machines
The Nokian Forest Rider has convinced the forestry machine world with its driving comfort and first-class traction. The newest addition to the tyre family is the 800/50R26.5 that carries large loads untiringly. It's tailor-made for heavy regeneration felling, where the largest harvesters and forwarders in the market are usually used. The new product works very well in northern circumstances, as well as in the new market such as South American tree plantations.
The Nokian Forest Rider features a radial structure combined with the patented side-puncture protection. The puncture protection makes the product durable and safe without compromising any of the radial tyre’s benefits: excellent traction and top-class driving response.
- The special radial tyre, which has been tested in close cooperation with our original installation customers and users, is the model student of the efficiency standards set for today’s harvesting. The expectations for the one and same tyre include maximum grip, high load-bearing capacity and sensitive driving, as well as smooth response in varying terrains. In the near future, we will replace the Nokian TRS cross-ply tyre product family with the corresponding Nokian Forest Rider family, explains Martti Päivinen, the Product Development Manager at Nokian Heavy Tyres.
The sturdy radial structure can be felt and seen as a large contact area that gives the tyre impressive grip on even slippery and difficult routes. In comparison with a cross-ply tyre, the Nokian Forest Rider has better traction and running capacity and a lower rolling resistance. Due to the low rolling resistance the tyre is also a fuel-saving and environmentally friendly choice. Nokian Forest Rider is not afraid of long transportation or demanding conditions.
Thanks to the optimised rib pattern, the tyre cleans effortlessly, and it does not damage the soil in soft forest terrain. The tyre rolls lightly and works well without tracks, but it can also be used with tracks. Thanks to its excellent stability, the tyre keeps the machine firmly and safely on the ground during loading.

Product development guided by environmental friendliness
Nokian Tyres is a pioneering tyre manufacturer in environmental issues. It was the first tyre company in the world to abandon harmful oils in its production processes and to use purified oils only.
Environmental friendliness is a key principle in our R&D philosophy. The company aims to develop products that burden the environment as little as possible. The rubber compounds, treads and structures of special tyres withstand wear and tear, which, from the users’ point of view, translates into many operating hours and functionality in demanding conditions. The lightly rolling tyres also reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Continued reduction of tyre vibration and noise is another challenge for product development.
Nokian Heavy Tyres – forerunner in special tyres
Nokian Heavy Tyres Ltd, a manufacturer of high-quality special tyres, is a part of the Nokian Tyres Group. The company’s product range includes forestry tyres, special tyres for agricultural machinery and a variety of industrial machinery tyres used in, for example, harbours and terminals, underground mines, earthmoving and road maintenance.
Nokian Heavy Tyres has been a pioneer, especially in the product development of forestry machinery tyres. The company has designed special tyres for forestry machines deploying the CTL (cut-to-length) system invented in the Nordic countries since the 1960s, and it is the global market leader in this field.
