Economical non-studded tyre for Northern roads:
The new Nordic non-studded winter tyre, Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3, is developed for versatile use on delivery vehicles and vans. It provides excellent winter grip and driving comfort. This sturdy roller from Nokian Tyres saves fuel in both the slippery intersections of city traffic and in the deep snow of countryside routes. In addition to the extremely low rolling resistance, developments have also been made in handling on ice, snow, and wet roads, which are all safety features that professional drivers highly value. The new non-studded van tyre effectively utilises the Nokian Cryo Crystal Concept that was used to maximise the ice grip of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 passenger car tyre.
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 offers durable performance for Northern roads, and its comprehensive selection of sizes has been specially designed for modern vehicles. We offer a selection of 20 products, from 14 inches up to 17 inches. The size selection of the new product family uses one tread pattern for lighter and heavier vehicles alike. The new Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 will be available at retail outlets in the autumn of 2014. The key markets are the Nordic countries and Russia.
The safety characteristics of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 which feels at home in the demanding Northern weather were further refined using a new-generation rubber compound, a tailored tread pattern, and the Nokian Cryo Crystal Concept that provides optimal lateral and longitudinal grip.
Diamond-tough grip particles that have the appearance of a multi-edged crystal have been added to the rubber compound in order to improve grip on ice by grabbing onto the driving surface. In a way, the microscopic crystals work like built-in studs, creating sharp, tough grip edges inside the rubber. The precise driving feel and excellent grip are preserved even as the tyre wears down. As the kilometres roll by, the eco-friendly crystals that have been evenly divided into the tread surface come up and activate a much-needed grip reserve.
The shoulder tread blocks of the non-studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 have the familiar pocket-type sipes that remove, or even pump, water out of the road surface, ensuring stable and sure grip. The patented pump sipes further improve grip on wet and icy surfaces.
The Cryo Crystal Concept provides ice grip, which is highly sought after by users of non-studded tyres, and forms the perfect combination with the wear-resistant winter compound. The new tread compound, adjusted for hard and varying use on vans, works safely along a wide temperature range and reduces rolling resistance, which in turn improves fuel economy. The rubber compound gives the sturdy Hakkapeliitta CR3 exceptional grip on ice, snow, and wet roads, as well as excellent wear resistance in varying temperatures.
The sipes on the tread blocks work actively regardless of variations in grip level and temperature. In addition to large amount of natural rubber, the compound also contains canola oil for added ice grip and tear strength.
The ideal grip and the Hakkapeliitta-like, balanced handling are supported by a large group of tried and tested solutions. The aggressive, directional tread pattern is covered by an even denser network of sipes. Wider individual sipes provide much-needed grip surface, especially when friction is at its lowest on wet ice.
The unified centre rib and bound centre section of the new tread pattern promote stable driving. Development also ensures a more even wear pattern, providing added safety as the tyre ages. Winter tyres installed on driving wheels will most likely wear out in the centre area first.
The carefully considered and tested block geometry of the block pattern provides excellent handling even on grooved roads. The precise handling also helps the driver to observe any changes in the level of friction, and to react on time.
In addition to the tread pattern, the exemplary, stable and quiet handling of the economical Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 is based on a sturdy structure. The extremely strong, new dual steel belt structure can tolerate heavy use and reliably carry high wheel loads.
The new, more flexible steel cord that has been adjusted to suit the steel belts provides more structural durability and allows the tyre to retain its state-of-the-art characteristics for longer than before. At the same time, it reduces rolling resistance, in turn enhancing fuel economy. The steel belt structure also reduces heat generation, which further improves wear resistance.
Indicators on the tread surface provide increased comfort and add to safety. The Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) developed and patented by Nokian Tyres displays the remaining amount of tread surface on the tyre’s main grooves in numbers. The numbers wear out as the tyre wears down. The Driving Safety Indicator is standard equipment on all Nokian winter tyres. The snowflake symbol of the Winter Safety Indicator (WSI) also indicates the winter safety of the tyre. It remains visible to a groove depth of four millimetres.
The sidewall information area provides location and inflation pressure indicators. The information area allows for recording the correct inflation pressure and installation location during tyre change. Safety is further improved by a new area that can be used to record the tightening torque of bolts for alloy rims.
Like the other Hakkapeliitta winter tyres, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 is also covered by our unique Hakka Guarantee.
